Recreational Parks

Britson Park & Athletic Complex

Through the generosity of the Britson family, approximately seven acres of land was purchased in September 2009 for a new park in west Roland. The land is on the south side of West Maple Street (County Road E-18) and just west of Britson Circle and Arthur Drive. Britson Park has two softball/little league baseball fields, a play structure, and a large open area for soccer fields.  The first softball and baseball games were played in June of 2013. The Minnesota Twins donated $10,000 and the Kansas City Royals donated $5,000 towards construction of the fields. Work is not yet done, as fundraising continues for construction of a concession stand/storage building/restroom building. For more information on this park, click here.

Erickson Park

A five-acre park, located along East Maple Street and North Park Street, is attractively landscaped with trees and shrubbery. The park contains two open shelter houses, an enclosed shelter house, playground area, picnic tables, grills, tot lot, concession stand (used during softball games), and the Bill Hennessy Ball Diamonds. New to Erickson Park in 2022 is the 9 hole disc golf course. The open shelter houses are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The enclosed shelter house must be rented in order to be used. The shelter house may be rented year round. The cost for renting the shelter house is $125 per day May-August, $100 per day Septmeber - April, and $50 per weeknight (Monday-Thursday). You may reserve the shelter house by calling City Hall at 515-215-2861 during normal working hours. Reservations may be made up to one year in advance.

Jacobson Bear Creek Park

A 3.7-acre nature park in Roland is the only park designated as a “nature park.” Located on Samson Street, the nature park contains a gazebo, many varieties of native trees and shrubs labeled, and Bear Creek running along the western edge of the park. New to Jacobson Bear Creek Park is a 9 hole disc golf course.  The gazebo is available on a first-come first-served basis, but if you want to ensure the use on a certain day, it may be reserved at a cost of $10 per day by calling City Hall at 515-215-2861 and making a reservation.

Pool Park

A 2.3-acre park, located along West Maple Street and Norsemen Drive, contains Roland’s swimming pool, basketball court, tennis court, pickle ball court, playground, and picnic tables. The swimming pool features a diving board, "Fumbling Five" bucket dump, and has a zero-depth entry so swimmers can enter the pool just like a beach. This makes it easier for toddlers and older folks to enter the pool.
