Roland Youth Sports Softball Game Schedule

2010 Roland Youth Sports —
Softball Information
Grades 3-6

A team off volunteers developed the Roland Youth Sports program in 2006. The program originally started with Youth Soccer and then in 2008 girls' softball was added. The softball program provides an opportunity for youth in the Roland and Story City communities to participate in a regional softball league. This league is available to all 3rt through 6th grade girls and is structured to teach the individual skills and team fundamentals of softball. All eligible girls who sign up are assigned to teams and play games against teams from surrounding communities. All players will play in every game. The league Is organized much like the Little League Baseball program.

The youth softball season begins practicing at the Roland softball fields in April. League games begin in mid-May and continue through June. Each Roland-Story team plays approximately 12 to 15 games with half of the games played at the Roland softball complex. All games are held on weekday evenings with an end of season tournament.

Q&A

What is Roland Youth Sports?

Roland Youth Sports is a non-profit organization recognized by the city of Roland. It is organized and volunteers within the community and funded by donations and registration fees.

How much is the registration fee and what does it cover?

Registration fees are $50.00 per participant, which will cover cost of a uniform shirt, umpire and tournament fees, and equipment (batting helmets, catcher's gear, balls, safety equipment, etc). Registration assistance applications are available upon request.

What equipment will my daughter need?

She will need a ball glove, cleats (no metal), and the appropriate pants/shorts to be determined by her coaches. She is not required to have a bat, however there is an advantage to having one that is the right size and weight for her.

How do I know what equipment is right for my daughter?

A guide will be provided at the informational meeting or upon request. Also, most sporting goods stores have charts and/or expert help to guide you in purchasing the right equipment.

Can my daughter participate in more than one program?

Yes, many girls participate in Spring and Fall leagues as well.

What is the schedule like?

All games are on weekday evenings, with an end of the season tournament. Practices are also typically scheduled on weekday late afternoons/evenings; however, the coaches will determine the practice schedule.

Will I have to travel?

Yes. However, game locations are nearby, e.g., Nevada, Jewell, Iowa Falls. Plus, half of the games will be in Roland.

Can I help?

Absolutely! Volunteer applications will be available at the informational meeting or upon request. We are not just looking for coaches, we need people to keep stats, run the score board, assist with field maintenance, and the list goes on.

Who can I contact if I have questions?

Tammy Shadlow (388-4333), Dennis Nuetzman (733-5221), Stacey Varley (388-4068), DeAnn Pitman (388-9001), Leanna Ellis (450-2851).
