Basically sump pumps and downspouts cannot be connected to the sanitary sewer system. Downspouts should drain onto the ground around the structure. Sump pumps can drain onto the ground, into drainage ditches, or into the storm sewer system.

If residents want to have their sump pump connections inspected, they should call city hall to make an appointment to be inspected. There is no charge for these inspections. The city will also look sump pump systems and let residents know what needs to be done to correct any violations that may exist so fines may be avoided in the future.
