Roland Days 2006

Good weather, food and entertainment of all kinds brought out the crowds for Roland Days July 7-9, 2006.

Kicking off the activities Friday night was the kiddie parade, followed by the naming of Little Miss Roland and Little Mr. Roland for 2006.

Winning the Little Miss Roland crown was Madeline Carlson, 5, daughter of Steve Carlson and Kristi Anderson. First runner-up was Savannah Pederson, 6, daughter of Josh Pederson. The second runner-up was Haylee Pullen, 5, daughter of Jared and Jill Pullen.

Nick Stole, 5, son of Galen and Cindy Stole, was the top vote-getter in the Little Mr. Roland contest, with Noah Steward, 8, son of Steve and Cathy Steward, placing second. Drew Hughes, 8, son of Kere Hughes, was the second runner-up.

The kids, and some of the adults, were entertained by a magic show following the crowing of Roland’s royalty, while others enjoyed the entertainment of amateur night Friday, and kids rode the barrel train around the park. Capping off the night’s activities was the fireworks display.

Saturday’s activities kicked off with the parade, with Robert “Doc” and Helen Larson as Grand Marshals. Entries included commercial businesses from the area, as well as local organizations and individuals.

During the afternoon activities included the always favorite dunk tank, the Roland Idol competition, dart tosses, bingo, face painting, a softball tournament made up of local teams and a team from the Story County Sheriff’s Office, and other games in the park. Tethered balloon rides were another Saturday afternoon feature, which was followed by a street dance in downtown Roland.

The activities wrapped up Sunday with a community worship service in the park with Doug Larson of Minnesota as the featured speaker.

 Throughout the weekend there was always plenty of food provided by the Roland Days Committee, and local organizations and businesses.

 Lisa Kasper and Sharon Selch were the winners of the raffle held by the Roland Days Committee.
