NEW PARK IN WEST ROLAND
Through the generosity of the Britson family, approximately seven acres of
land was purchased in September 2009 for a new park in west Roland. The
land is on the south side of West Maple Street (County Road E-18) just
west of Britson Circle. Currently the Park Board is working on plans
that could include a play structure, several soccer fields, a small
football field and maybe a softball/baseball field. To achieve this the
Park Board would like any input from the Roland residents on how to best
utilize this land.
Currently the land is farm land. During 2010 a portion of the land will
be seeded with grass and the rest with alfalfa. The initial plan is to
have some land available to use for fall soccer 2010 (or possibly spring
soccer 2011). At this time grants are being pursued to help in the
development of the park. The City of Roland web site will be updated as
plans evolve.
The Park Board is seeking input from Roland residents concerning
development of the park. Please feel free to contact any Park Board
members if you have comments or ideas. As we progress with this park
development all volunteers would be greatly appreciated.
