Construction Permits
Construction permits are required when any of the following is done to a new or existing property:

Construction permits may be picked up at City Hall at 202 E. Ash St. during regular business hours. Dog License Dogs 6 months of age or older in Roland must have a city dog license. City licenses may be obtained at City Hall (202 E. Ash St.) upon presentation of rabies certificate (NOTE: the expiration date of the rabies shot must not expire within six months of registration), and a photograph of the dog(s) being registered. Dogs can be eligible for a reduced licensing fee if upon registration of the dog(s), you can provide evidence from a veterinarian that the dog(s) have been spayed or neutered. All dog licenses are to be renewed the first business day of March every year. A $0.50 per month penalty will be applied to dog licenses not renewed by the first business day of May.
EMTs Roland was established as the first response team in the state of Iowa in the fall of 1976. The response team is designated as EMT-B level responder and is dispatched by the Story County Sheriff's Office. There are currently 11 members of the Roland Response Team. All members are certified at the EMT-B level or higher. Shifts run from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.. Fire Department The Roland Volunteer Fire Department was established in 1912. Currently, there is 17 volunteer firefighters on the roster. The Roland Volunteer Fire Department's coverage area is:

Stone Sanitation of Marshalltown is the garbage hauler for the residential residents of Roland. Any questions you have regarding your garbage services should be addressed directly to Stone Sanitation at 641-366-2310. Garbage pick up is on Saturday. You are advised to have garbage set out by 6 a.m.. If a holiday falls on a scheduled garbage pick up day, a notice will be posted at City Hall, the Roland Library and the Roland Post Office stating when garbage will be picked up. The fee for garbage pick up is included in your monthly water bill. The fee for garbage pick up is $15.75 per month ($12 for the actual garbage pick up and $3.75 for the landfill assessment fee). Housing Roland offers a prime location at the center of Iowa and the United States for living or business. Strategically located just three miles east of Interstate 35 on Story County Highway E-18, residents enjoy a friendly community which has excellent schools and beautiful recreation areas with big city amenities only minutes away.

Roland Public Library Library Web Site Stop in and visit the Roland Public Library, located at 218 N Main St. We have so much to offer. We have books for all ages, audio books, video books and the use of a computer with internet access. We offer homebound delivery, adult reading club and children's story time. Museum The Roland Historical Society, along with the help of the entire Roland community, was successful in relocating a 1890 schoolhouse to the museum's current location at 104 W Poplar Street (1/2 block off Main Street).
The museum contains a large variety of antiques, Roland memorabilia, tools, books, town records, school equipment, and much, much, more. The Roland Museum's hours are:
