WORK SESSION

MONDAY, JANUARY 18, 2010

Note:  The following minutes are unofficial until they are approved by the City Council at the next council meeting.

The Roland City Council met for a work session on Monday, January 18, 2010 at 4:00 pm, at City Hall, with CM Erin Varley presiding as Mayor.  Council members present at roll call were Duane Canny, Larry Ford, Jeri Neely and Erin Varley.  Also present were Street Superintendent Harold Hovick and 2 visitors and members of the community.

It was moved by Neely, seconded by Canny to approve the agenda.  All were in favor.

Neil Guess and Gregory Sindt of Bolton-Menk, Inc. were present to discuss their services and options for the wastewater plant facility.  They presented their ideas for the wastewater plant; the pros and the cons, along with a timeframe the preliminary engineering report would be completed and presented to the council.  Once the council determines which option they are going to go with, the Facilities Plan will need to be amended.

There was discussion on the large amount of I & I coming into the wastewater plant.  The City continues to work on this issue and will be reverse smoke testing four areas of town this Spring along with checking sump pumps for improper connections.

They also discussed briefly funding options for the upgrade.

Council members thanked Neil and Gregory for taking time to meet with them.

Consensus of the council was to have Bolton-Menk, Inc. provide them with a contract detailing the timeframe and costs for the next council meeting.  City Clerk Frost was directed to send a letter to MER Engineering stating the Council wants them to discontinue their work on the wastewater plant options, but to continue with the smoke testing project and current street projects.

There were no Council/Mayor comments at this time.

With no further business at this time, Neely moved adjournment of the meeting at 5:16 pm, seconded by Ford.  All were in favor.  The next regular council meeting will be Monday, January 25, 2010, at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall.
