CITY COUNCIL
SPECIAL SESSION
MAY 31, 2007
Note: The following minutes were approved by the
Roland City Council at its June 11, 2007, council meeting.
The Roland City Council met in special session with the Roland
Pool Board on Thursday, May 31, 2007, at 7:00 p.m. at the Swimming Pool with
Mayor Samuel Juhl presiding. Council
members present at roll call were Duane Canny, Bob Hanson and Jeri Neely. Absent were council members Roger Fritz and
John Lee. Also present were 2 visitor
and member of the community.
Motion by Canny, second by Hanson to approve the
agenda. All were in favor.
The purpose of the joint meeting
was to discuss the condition of the pool.
Pool Board member Adam Pitman gave the council members a brief overview
of what they have done and repaired since May 17th. As of today, the pool is still loosing
approximately 1000 gallons of water per hour.
They feel this is a lot of water to continue to lose. CM Hanson asked if there are any pool experts
that can be called. The Board members
reported that they have been taking with
There was discussion on using a
camera to check the pipes. This would be
somewhat difficult with the 90 degree angles and would cost between $1500 -
$2000. Another option they discussed was
to have someone come in and listen for the leaks. There is no guarantee with this option since
the pipes are plastic and would cost between $500 - $800. The pool would also need to be pressurized. The last option discussed was to contact Pool
Tech and have them see if they can find the leak They could be here next week.
There was discussion on whether
to open the pool until Pool Tech can get here or leave it closed. The council members would like to open the
pool, but the Pool Board members felt it would be best to leave it closed. They were concerned with the amount of water
being lost, the stabilization of the chemicals due to the water loss and the
temperature of the water will be cooler due to having to continually add water. There was also concerns about selling season
passes and then not being able to re-open the pool. The council members stated that it is the
Pool Board’s decision.
Consensus of the council members
was to have the Pool Board contact Pool Tech and have them get here as soon as
possible to find the leak and fix the welds on the stainless steel gutters.
There were no Council/Mayor
comments at this time.
There was no public input at this time.
With no further business at this time, Canny moved
adjournment of the meeting at7:36 p.m., second by Neely. All were in favor. The next regular council meeting will be
Monday, June 11, 2007, at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall.
