MINUTES OF THE ROLAND CITY COUNCIL

WORK SESSION

SUNDAY, MARCH 8, 2009

Note:  The following minutes are unofficial until they are approved by the City Council at the next council meeting.

The Roland City Council met in work session on Sunday, March 8, 2009 at 3:00 pm, at City Hall, with Mayor Pro-tem Duane Canny presiding.  Council members present at roll call were Duane Canny, Larry Ford, Corey Johnson, Jeri Neely and Erin Varley.  Absent was Mayor Samuel Juhl.  Also present was 1 member of the community.

It was moved by Johnson, seconded by Ford to approve the agenda.  All were in favor.

The purpose of the work session was to see what type of incentives the Council would entertain for potential buyers for the property located at 221 N Main Street.

Council member Neely stated that she has someone interested in purchasing the property and they are interested in what the City is offering for incentives.  The potential buyer currently has an existing business and is renting the space they are in.  The building is in need of some repairs, so they are looking at the possibility of relocating their business.

The potential buyer would like to know if the City would consider financing the sale of the building.  Council members discussed the option of selling the property on a 5 or 7 yr contract, with down payment, interest and a possible balloon payment at the end of the contract.  The potential buyer will need to do some remodeling inside the building and they will need a new sign.  Marc Soderstrum, representing the RADC, stated that the RADC could probably help with the sign.

The potential property still needs to visit with their bank.  They just wanted the Council to know they were interested in the property.

Consensus of the council members was to have CM Neely contact the potential buyer and let them know that the Council is interested in working with them on the purchase of the building and to have the potential buyer get back to them with an offer.  The council will formalize what incentives will be offered at that time.

Council/Mayor comments consisted of the following:  they need to visit with the school to see who is responsible for what at the softball diamonds.

With no further business at this time, Ford moved adjournment of the meeting at 3:31 pm, seconded by Varley.  All were in favor.  The next regular council meeting will be Monday, March 9, 2009, at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall.
